Montezuma Plywood announced that the Green End started operation this morning, Friday, at 7 a.m. The Dryers will start operating today at 11 a.m. The Spreaders are scheduled to begin production tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 2 at 7 a.m. The plant has been shut down for a week and a half due to a mechanical failure in the press.

Dolores Schools Superintendent J. D. Hathaway reported this week that school registration for the Dolores District Re-4A is down from last year with a total of 520 children registered as of Monday of this week. Registration last year on the day after Labor Day was at 540 students.

Mrs. Pamela Tibbits, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Tibbits, became the bride of Mr. David French of Gunnison on Saturday, Aug. 26.

Mrs. Florence Daly, special education teacher at the Dolores Schools, received her degree as a Specialist in Learning Disability from Adams State this summer.

Wade A. Dillon, District Attorney, announced that the authorities have made widespread arrests as a result of a united crackdown on illegal dangerous drug traffic in Southwestern Colorado. More than 100 warrants were issued in connection with drug traffic in Cortez, Durango, Silverton, Montrose, Telluride, Delta and the northern New Mexico area.

Mrs. Florene Wagner has just returned from a six-day vacation where she traveled down into Oklahoma almost to the Arkansas state line, a 2,600-mile trip. Her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Jones, from Downey, Calif., arrived about two weeks ago and then they and Mrs. Wagner left for Oklahoma. Mrs. Wagner reported a very good time visiting with some folks she hadn’t seen for about 45 years. Wayne and Vanda spent three days here before returning to their home in California on last Monday.

Bruce Plumlee drove to Grand Junction on Aug. 20 to pick up his wife, Jo Lea, and two children who had been visiting her parents for two weeks. On their return to their home in Farmington they stopped here in Dolores to visit with Bruce’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mory Plumlee.

Mrs. Mary Garner from Texas has been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Russ Garner and family here in Dolores. Mrs. Garner is Russ’s grandmother. She also visited with her daughter, Menlea, in Rico while she was here.

Jack Akin is visiting with his mother, Mary Akin, at the present time. Jack drove down with two friends from Kenai, Alaska where he has been living for the last few years.

Mr. Corky McClain moved the house from 204 S. 8th to his property at 1401 Central Ave. on Tuesday afternoon. He purchased the house from Charles Lee and is planning on fixing it up and turning it into a rental.

Mrs. Lois Dabol left on Tuesday evening via Frontier for a visit with her son, Ronnie and family. She plans on staying about two weeks. Ronnie lives in Tucson.

Mrs. Helen Fogel has just come home after a two week vacation in Colorado Springs, Denver and Boulder. She reported a very enjoyable time visiting with friends and relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Corky McClain and children and Steve Saltsgaver spent Sunday in Farmington.

Mr. and Mrs. Max King and family left on Tuesday for their new home in Salina, Utah. La Rue was very active in Boy Scouting and was an officer in Eastern Star in Dolores and Max was active in both Masons and Eastern Star here. Max has been employed by Nielsons Inc. for several years.

Carol Majors helped at the Grand Opening of the new Montrose County Bank in Naturita last Saturday. She said that she enjoyed it very much. Carol’s mother brought Rod and Chris down from Grand Junction where they had been visiting with her for a week. The boys returned home with their mother on Saturday evening.
