Mesa Verde offers free hike to ID tracks and signs

Park staff will lead a guided hike about learning how to identify animal tracks and signs in the winter at Mesa Verde on Saturday, Feb. 3, beginning at 9 a.m.

The guided hike is free, but advance sign-up is required, according to a news release from spokeswoman Cristy Brown. Children should be at least 7 years old to join the hike. Be prepared to be outdoors for 2– 3 hours with extra layers of clothing and water. There is a limit of 20 people.

Participants will meet at the Morefield Village parking lot at Morefield Campground, and then explore the hillsides around the campground. To sign up for the hike, for weather conditions, and for more information on the hike, call the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum at 970-529-4631.

The Morefield Campground is located 4 miles from the park entrance. The park entrance fee is $15.
