Literary Fridays at the Library presents “Drama at the Library,” with the Montezuma-Cortez High School Drama Club, at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at 202 N. Park St.

Each year, the drama department produces two to three plays, a comedy or a Shakespeare play in the fall, a small-cast play or student-directed One Act Festival in the winter, and a musical in the spring. This year, students performed the comedy farce “Noises Off,” which featured a two-story rotating set and a lot of precisely timed physical comedy. Recently, six student directors were showcased in the One Act Festival of comedy and drama plays. This spring, the students are on board to present the literary classic “Little Women” as a musical. The drama department will explore the clothing, etiquette and design of the Civil War era while bringing the March sisters to the stage.

In addition to stage productions, a student-led improvisational troupe, called the Impulsive Improvisors performs a comedy show every month. The Narrative Ninjas” bring storytelling workshops to local elementaries by gathering the students’ stories and then performing them as stage productions.

Literary Fridays at the Library is sponsored by The Farm Bistro, Four Corners Free Press, Maria’s Bookshop, Friends of the Cortez Public Library and KSJD Community Radio.
