San Juan Basin Archaeological Society will sponsor a lecture, “Mounds of the Lower Mississippi Valley,” by Jessica Crawford at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College, 1000 Rim Drive.
The presentation will highlight well-known, extensively-researched mound sites in the Lower Mississippi Valley states, including Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The area contains the oldest mounds and highest concentrations of earthworks in the country.
Crawford, southwest regional director of the Archaeological Conservancy, works from an office in Marks, Mississippi. She manages about 30 conservancy preserves, oversees research projects about conservancy property and acquires properties for conservancy preservation.
