Ivan Patterson, President of the Dolores Water Conservancy District announced that his Board of Directors will conduct a tour over the Dolores Reclamation Project on Saturday, Aug. 26, 1972. Emphasis will be placed on studying the Dolores River Canyon as it relates to the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. Congressman Frank Evans will accompany the group to get first hand information on the project.

Late summer and early fall, the time of year when many of Colorado’s horse owners are showing at fairs, also is the time for sleeping sickness. Dr. William W. Brown, Colorado State University extension veterinarian, said that eight cases of western type equine sleeping sickness already have been diagnosed positively in Larimer County.

Linda L. Sabala, who was kidnapped in Denver last week and released in Seattle, is a cousin of Fred Oakes of Dolores. An escapee from Colorado State Hospital in Pueblo, Timothy Russell, kidnapped her and forced her to drive him to Washington.

Texas Gulf, Incorporated is carrying out a mineral exploration program in Navajo Basin in the Wilson Mountains this summer. The company staked the area in early 1972 and currently has one exploration drill on the property. The geology of the district was recently described in United States Geographical Survey Bulletin. A tent camp for eight men has been set up in Navajo Basin. The company is currently drilling on the area which it hopes may be an economic copper deposit.

Clifford Alexander, father of Mrs. Arthur Millard, of the Belle Vista Nursing Home, visited Friday with the Arthur Millard family. Mrs. Millard, who had surgery Aug. 10 is reported as recuperating nicely.

Ed Butler was home from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, Oklahoma for two weeks starting Aug. 12, visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Butler and other friends and relatives.

Rev. Edinger and two nephews were visitors at the Star office this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Betts form Detroit, Mich., are here visiting with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Henes up the West Fork. They are here in a Dodge motor home and living near the Henes; home on the West Dolores. They will stay for about two weeks.

Miss Charlene Johnson returned from Europe where she toured Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany and Luxembourg. Before returning home she stopped in Iowa and Nebraska to visit friends. She will return to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley the latter part of September where she will be a sophomore. In Germany she visited Munich and saw the preparations for the Olympics being made. In total her European tour lasted two months.

Visiting this week with Mrs. Pauline Vigil are here son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Vigil and four children. This is the younger Mrs. Vigil’s first trip to this country and after tours to Mesa Verde National Park and up the Dolores River she pronounces this the most beautiful country she has seen. The Vigils are from Bakersfield, California.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kinkade and daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Engle and children, went to the Bar-D Chuck Wagon in Durango Saturday night.

Dr. Joseph Hathaway now has his family with him in Dolores, moving his wife and two children down from Buena Vista early this week. He has a daughter who will be a first grade student and a boy, 4.
