A Mancos man pleaded guilty Friday to vehicular homicide after hydroplaning into oncoming traffic on U.S. Highway 160 in July, hitting a vehicle with a family of four and killing two.
Anthony Rodriquez, 36, also pleaded guilty to careless driving causing bodily injury and driving without insurance.
The crash occurred about 5:15 p.m. July 20, 2017, just east of the Montezuma-La Plata County line at mile marker 68, near the Cherry Creek area.
Rodriquez was traveling west in a Nissan Armada when a downpour caused his vehicle to hydroplane into the eastbound lane and strike a Honda Pilot carrying the Streett family head-on.
Authorities said excessive speed was a factor.
Robert Streett, 52, died at the scene, and his 16-year-old son, Robby, died at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Streett’s wife, Josslyn, 49, was airlifted to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, and Sawyer, 14, was taken to Mercy.
The family is from Sequim, Washington, about two hours northwest of Seattle.
Rodriquez is scheduled for sentencing April 2.
