Eli Tomac of Cortez bowed out of the second round of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series Saturday night in Houston.

“We can’t line up for tonight’s race,” Tomac said on Instagram. “We’ve done everything possible to be healthy and healed for the weekend. We gave it a go in all three practice sessions, but still not able to ride at race speed. At this point, we’re taking the process day by day and we’ll hopefully see everyone back at the races soon.”

Tomac, racing for Kawasaki, has been recovering from a bruised shoulder after crashing out of the season-opening 450SX race in Anaheim, California, last week.

It became clear on Saturday afternoon that Tomac would not be competitive for the main event in Houston. During qualifying sessions, his fastest laps were about 10 seconds off the pace, at 1:04.75 and 1:02.61. Jason Anderson set the pace in qualifying rounds with times of 54.025 and 53.065.

Husqvarna rider Anderson won the main event in Houston and sits atop the standings with 49 points. Ken Roczen of Honda finished second in Houston and sits in second with 42 points along with Justin Barcia of Yamaha, who finished third.

Tomac has one point in the official standings after the Houston race.
