Friday, Dec. 22

11:34 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an insufficient fund check at the Montezuma County Landfill, 26100 County Road F. A manager reported a man had paid with a check after delivering a few loads of waste to the landfill in November, but the check had bounced on multiple attempts to cash it. Deputies were unable to contact the man who paid the check, and they sought an arrest warrant for him on the charge of issuing a bad check.

Saturday, Dec. 30

10:22 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a lost or stolen license plate in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man reported the license plate on his welding trailer had gone missing sometime during the past few weeks. The case remains under investigation.

Sunday, Dec. 31

2:19 p.m.: A woman was arrested on suspicion of a protection order violation and domestic violence in the county after a man reported the woman against whom he had a restraining order had called his house and started yelling profanities and racial slurs while the call was on speaker and children were present.

Monday, Jan. 1

7:09 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of two lost juveniles in the 28000 block of County Road W. The juveniles reportedly called 911 after getting lost while walking home from a party. Deputies gave them a ride to their homes in Cortez.

8:39 a.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle traffic accident in the 1500 block of Central Avenue, Dolores. A man had collided with a guardrail median and a utility light pole, causing heavy damage to his vehicle and an estimated $4,000 in damage to the light pole. He reportedly told responding deputies he did not have a driver’s license and had been drinking earlier. The man was placed under investigation for possible DUI and underage consumption. No injuries were reported in the crash.

6 p.m.: Deputies responded to a single-vehicle ATV accident in the 5300 block of County Road 25. A woman had reportedly overturned her vehicle in a ravine near the road and become pinned underneath it. She was transported to Southwest Memorial Hospital with head and facial injuries. The woman had not been wearing a helmet, and was reportedly a “newer rider.” She reportedly did not appear to be under the influence of alcohol. Responding deputies were unable to determine what caused the crash.

Tuesday, Jan. 2

1:53 p.m.: A man was issued a summons on suspicion of third-degree assault in the 23000 block of County Road F.5 after deputies responded to a fight at a residence in the area. A woman reported the man had hit her in the head, knocked her to the ground, kicked her in the head and tried to drag her out the door by her hair. She was examined by medical personnel after complaining of a headache, but declined hospital treatment. The man reportedly had several scratches on his body, and claimed the woman had attacked him, but witnesses supported the woman’s version of events.

10:09 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

10:20 p.m.: Deputies assisted Colorado State Patrol troopers with an arrest in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 160. A man was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Wednesday, Jan. 3

6:30 p.m.: A man was served with a warrant at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St.

Thursday, Jan. 4

2:51 a.m.: A man was arrested at Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, on two local warrants. The man had reportedly given a false name to hospital staff, but the responding deputy told him he would not be charged with criminal impersonation if he revealed his real name. He was not charged with the additional offense, and because he had received injuries in a car accident earlier in the evening, he was not handcuffed during transportation to the jail.

1:01 p.m.: Deputies assisted Cortez police with an arrest at City Park, 802 E. Main St. A man was arrested after witnesses said he had hit another man who had thrown a plastic bottle at him. The other man was reportedly bleeding from his face.

2:04 p.m.: A man was arrested at Montezuma County Combined Courts, 865 N. Park St., on a warrant for failure to appear.
