The fire that destroyed a historic Dolores bar and an art studio on late Thursday night and early Friday morning is still under investigation.

Montezuma County Sheriff Lt. Ted Meador said that the fire is still being treated as “suspicious in nature,” and that the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was on the scene Friday afternoon.

“We are running down a couple of leads and as soon as we get those tied up we’ll see,” Meador said Monday afternoon. “We’re working (the case) very hard.”

He said that with it being an active investigation that are few details that he can talk about.

A CBI arson investigation team from Pueblo with a specially trained dog arrived Friday to investigate the fire scene.

Meador said he couldn’t comment on where or how the fire started.

The blaze was first reported at 11:34 p.m. Thursday night. It destroyed the Hollywood Bar and the Fusion Studio.

Although not willing to say that the fire was started on purpose, he did say that a case like this is as much about eliminating people who had nothing to do with the blaze as much as it is about tracking down possible suspects.

Meador said they will be posting a Crimestoppers alert on the fire later this week. Anyone with any information please call 565-4243.
