Mesa Verde National Park is planning a prescribed fire, weather permitting.

The one-acre fire will take place in the Chapin Mesa area between Jan. 8 and 31 and will dispose of amble oak, piñon and juniper created during fuel reduction projects from last summer.

The park planned the burn for this time of year for its “low intensity fire behavior.” The park is allotting one day for “ignition,” but warns smoke will be visible for days afterward.

The release also notes the fire smoke could affect health. For more information, visit www.colorado.gov/cdphe/wood-smoke-and-health.
