Violence only leads to more violence

When will our country realize that our focus on violence only leads to more violence? Young children are exposed to violence in the television cartoons; youth see it constantly on video games, movies and television shows. Adults say they do not approve of violence but think it is all right to possess any number and kinds of weapons.

Our nation was formed in the violent tumult of the Revolutionary War and reunited through the brother-to-brother violence of the Civil War. Is that to be our history forever?

Modern people ridicule the old time family shows. But stop and think. Which will make the best impression on someone and make a better person — family love and togetherness, or domestic violence and murder?

We can and must change!

This letter in no way is meant to denigrate the men and women of our armed forces. As it is said, “Our freedom was won at a price,” and so it was. But let’s give love, and, dare I say it, God a chance. Let us recognize that every man, woman and child around the world is created in God’s image — the God who is love.

Love not hate, compassion not ridicule, hope not helplessness will be the salvation of the United States.
