Effective Monday, July 16, Mesa Verde National Park lifted fire restrictions which have been in effect since June 20. “Over the past couple of weeks, we have had some significant rain showers across the park which have reduced the fire danger,” stated Superintendent Cliff Spencer in a written release from the park.

Mesa Verde is now in Stage 1 fire restrictions which means:

Campfires within designated fire rings in the Morefield Campground and picnic areas are permitted within the park.

Charcoal fires in fire grates or charcoal grills are permitted in Morefield Campground and the picnic area. Please make sure coals are out and cold before disposing of them.

Smoking is permitted within the park; please use caution.

Fireworks are prohibited in Mesa Verde National Park.

“If the fire danger increases later in the season, restrictions may once again be implemented,” stated Superintendent Spencer.
