Remember the old saying, alls well that ends well? Our community and many others have a busy schedule to work into our Independence Day celebrations when the 4th is in the middle of the week, but everything worked out even better than we thought it would. We didnt miss the fireworks display at all. We were afraid that one little spark would send a wildfire straight up the canyon and with a prevailing wind always from the south, this is a strong possibility. But you know that Rico is a little Town that has been on the map for hundreds of years and with normal care has not been threatened with such a disaster (as far as I know).
It is an actual fact that we did not hear one single firecracker during the week of the 4th. That the general public, the celebrants, travelers and all would respect our little Town this much is astounding if you just think about it for a moment. All of you who were up here deserve a thank you straight from our hearts. There are a lot of special friends who love this Town and that is a fact that we have known before this demonstration of caring. Thank you, and you, and you.
Vacation Bible School was held this week at the Community Church. Rico has many children and there is always a good turnout. We remember when we arrived here in 1988 and there were only two little babies who happened to be cousins, Eliza Gass and Olivia Gass. Since that time, Rico has grown, added a subdivision or two, and the population is now something over 300. We now have children of all ages playing happily on our completed reclamation projects, like new sodded lawns that replace the contaminated soil, and other area projects.
Best of all, we have good news regarding the weather. According to our unofficial weatherman, Duane Holt, we received precipitation from the 2nd through the 8th and the total was 1.15 inches. A good inch! And, nothing since but the monsoon season will continue to benefit us, we are sure.
