First of all, I would like to thank Montezuma County Commissioners Keenan Ertel, James Lambert and Larry Don Suckla for rescinding their vote to defund the Montezuma County Extension Office. We are taking steps to improve and rebuild CSU Extension in Montezuma County, and the Extension office staff, the county commissioners, county administrator, the newly appointed advisory committee and the Montezuma County Fairboard are committed to this.

The advisory committee had its first meeting on Monday, Nov. 20, and elected Linda Odell as chair and Jan Sennhenn as vice-chair and secretary. Improving communication was identified as a major priority and the committee will also provide input to developing a memorandum of understanding between the Extension Office and the county fair board. A clearer idea of responsibilities in the County Fair will improve communications and help the fair run more smoothly.

The next meeting of the Advisory Committee will be from 5 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4 in the Extension Office.

The Montezuma County Extension web pages, accessed through the county website at montezumacounty.org/web, have been reworked, and the Extension calendar at montezumacounty.org/web/csu-extension-calendar, is regularly updated. Check them out.

I would also like to thank everyone who supports the 4-H program and the Extension office as a whole. I will be providing regular updates on KSJD radio and to the Journal as we continue to move forward.

Tom Hooten, CSU Extension Director
