Jill and Dave Chisholm are moving Mr. Happy’s down the street to 125 East Main in Cortez where they will have a bar along with the restaurant.
Randy Battaglia adds a new look to one of Mr. Happy’s logos since the restaurant is adding a bar at their new location on Main Street in Cortez.

It’s time for a change for Mr. Happy’s

In mid-June, Cortez City Council approved a change in location for a Hotel and Restaurant Liquor License for Mr. Happy’s.

The new place of business for Mr. Happy’s Bakery and Cafe is 125 East Main Street, the old home of Francisca’s Restaurant.

Relocating from their trademark yellow building on 332 East Main Street is a “positive move,” Dave Chisholm, owner of Mr. Happy’s said.

Currently, Mr. Happy’s employees are hard at work in the remodeling stage with the opening targeted for July 15.

Mr. Happy’s new digs will include a much larger area.

The dining room will be twice as large as the first location, Chisholm said.

Previously the eating establishment accommodated 10 tables; the new location will house approximately 20 to 23 tables and a full bar section.

With the increase in size of the building, Chisholm expects to “double” the size of his staff and the output of production. “We’re going to be hiring new employees in every position,” Chisholm said.

The new location will also feature a “margarita, tiki, beach themed bar,” Chisholm said.

The bar was approved for a full liquor license and will have eight beers on tap and a 70 inch big screen television.

“It’s going to be a great place for people to come, hang out and watch sporting events,” Chisholm said.

Internet wireless will also be available.

Mr. Happy’s will be open from 6 a.m. and will stay open between midnight and 2 a.m.

As July 15 approaches, Chisholm said that Mr. Happy’s will be closed for one or two days while moving.

And that yellow color? The new building is painted “a softer yellow.”

“It’s kind of our thing,” Chisholm said.
