Leopard Sharks swim at Ouray

Sonny Boren, 12, led the Cortez Leopard Sharks swimming team at the Ouray Invitational on June 16.

The strapping young lad recorded two fist-place finishes, as well as second- and-third-place times.

Boren won the boys 11-12 50-meter freestyle in 34.14 and claimed victory in the 11-12 100-meter Individual Medley at 1:30.75. He took second in the 11-12 50-butterfly (42.64) and third in the 11-12 50-breaststroke (48.43).

Younger brother Garrett Boren, 11, swam strong, too. He was fourth in the 50-meter backstroke at 48.33 just ahead of teammate Bryce Baumgarten (fifth) in 49.63. Garrett Boren swam to a fifth-place time of 1:44.82 in the 100-IM.

Troy Thomason, 8, placed fifth in the mixed 8-Under 25-free at 26.63.

For the girls, Amanda Kill, 15, was the runner-up in the 15-Older 50-back in 47.28. She also came in third in the 15-Older 50-free, finishing at 39.24.

Kayla Hageman, 13, swam to a fourth-place finish of 44.41 in the 13-14 50-free. Alexx Earley, 11, was fourth in the 11-12 50-breast in a time of 1:04.47.

The Leopard Sharks will be at the Delta County Barracuda Swim Meet inside Bill Heddles Recreation Center, beginning today at 9:30 a.m.
