The Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant on West Main Street, the site of a small fire on Friday, June 15, was reopened on Tuesday afternoon.
Jeff Vandevoorde, fire chief for the Cortez Fire Protection District, said a passerby Friday morning saw smoke coming out of the building and called 911.
Firefighters, after arriving ,saw smoke coming out of the restaurant and forced their way into the building, where they discovered a fire in the kitchen area.
Vandevoorde said firefighters were able to put the fire out fairly quickly, but the restaurant had to be closed because of the damage and cleanup.
Firefighters also checked out the roof of the building to make sure the fire had not spread to other parts of the restaurant.
He said the owners of the restaurant had to acquire a certificate of occupancy from the health department before it could be reopened.
