Show progress first, then ask for money

Voters have voiced their opinion on raising property taxes: No!

I’m all for higher pay for teachers and better school buses, etc., but as mentioned in previous letters by others, the burden should not be the sole responsibility of property owners. A gross receipt tax would allow everyone to participate, plus we would get the benefit of visitors’ tax dollars.

The best way to get these things passed is to show progress in test scores and graduation rates, then show how more money would help continue growth. It’s like an employee telling you that he or she would do a better job if you’d pay more; it doesn’t work that way.

Teachers certainly have their hands full, and parents need to take more responsibility for their child’s education by promoting good behavior and work ethics at home. Do not send your kids to school to be raised or baby-sat by someone else.

Let’s help our teachers by sending kids to school with good attitudes and ready to learn. No one should be against higher pay for better results; we just need to see the results first and do our part to help attain them.
