The Ute Mountain Ute Tribe won a $7,000 competitive grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services Native American Library Services Program.
The Basic Grant with Education Assessment Option will improve library services to the community in Towaoc and help the tribes library staff attend courses and training workshops.
In a news release, U.S. Sen. Mark Udall said libraries are important community institutions devoted to educational opportunities.
This grant will not only help the librarys staff pursue professional development opportunities, it will also improve the quality of services to the community, Udall added.
Native American Library Services grants are available to support existing library operations and to maintain core library services.
This year, the program will award 235 grants to 242 tribes, totaling $1.7 million.
Officials from the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe did not return calls seeking comment on the grant.
