A country-folk singer will stop by the WildEdge Brewing Collective on Friday as part of a tour of Colorado and Utah.
Jackson Emmer has been playing music in bars and concert venues since he was 18, but he said he switched to an acoustic country style about 10 years ago, after playing in several experimental rock and noise bands, because it was closer to the music he listens to. He recently moved back to Colorado from North Carolina and plans to play in 11 cities across the state this winter, as well as Bluff, Utah, to promote his latest album, which is set to release in the spring. Cortez will be the third stop on his tour, with a free concert starting at 7 p.m.
Emmer said he chose the town as one of the stops on his tour because he knows the owners of WildEdge, and “Cortez seems like a good place to play.” Other stops will include Vail, Boulder, Fort Collins and Denver.
Concerts with Emmer tend to be laid-back, he said. He sings and plays the guitar without any other backup instruments, and he said his style is deliberately simple.
“It’s pretty stripped-down, pretty raw – just a voice and a guitar,” he said. “I think it’s a refreshingly analog way to play, compared to today’s music.”
There will be no cover charge for Emmer’s performance on Friday, but food and drinks at the brewery will be priced normally.
WildEdge typically features live music at least once a week. Other artists who have played there in recent weeks include local bands The Tomlynns and Last Nickel, as well as New York-based musician Dan Lavoie.
