San Juan County recovery coordinator hired

Silverton resident Melanie Russek begins work this month as a part-time San Juan economic development/recovery coordinator. This position, funded by the Economic Development Administration with match from the Region 9 Economic Development District, the town of Silverton, San Juan County and Silverton Schools, will assist businesses and strengthen community partnerships by looking at ways to increase resiliency and diversify the San Juan County economy.

“Having this position and someone with Melanie’s enthusiasm and skill set allows us to revitalize San Juan Development Association’s economic development efforts to assist the community into the future,” said Laura Lewis Marchino, executive director of Region 9 and SJDA board member.

Russek also is assistant director for the Silverton Avalanche School and the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic, .

“I was intrigued with the Blueprint 2.0 project from the Colorado Office of Economic Development to build and diversify our winter recreation,” said Russek.
