The Cortez Public Library hosts Durango veterinarian Karlene Stange, author of “The Spiritual Nature of Animals: A Country Vet Explores the Wisdom, Compassion, and Souls of Animals,” on Monday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m.

According to Stange, she has gained knowledge about animals’ spiritual nature by studying what the world’s religious, scientific and spiritual teachings have to say about animals, and by traveling throughout Southwest Colorado as an ambulatory vet.

The book chronicles her exploration and attempts describe the nonphysical makeup of animals to help improve animal care and the human-animal bond.

“When you look into an animal’s eyes you sense an energetic essence,” she writes. “This nonphysical aspect of our pets is the part we most adore. I call this vital spirit ‘animas.’ No other part of the animal is as important.”

The presentation is free, and refreshments will be served.

The library is at 202 N. Park St. For more information, call 970-565-8117.
