Do not open Sage Hen for camping

I grew up in Cortez with an avid outdoorsman as a father. I love living in this area for the great outdoor recreation. A while back there was some talk about opening up Sage Hen for camping. Last weekend I decided to go fishing down there as I had not been there in years.

I was quickly appalled at the condition of the road. The holes are many and very deep. I could not drive more than two miles per hour with my boat trailer attached. Secondly, I made a quick stop at the bathrooms and was completely mortified at what I saw.

Broken glass littered the floor, the walls were covered in feces and graffiti, used tampons and pads littered the floor and feces was piled everywhere. I walked away disgusted.

When I got on the lake my irritation continued as I spent the majority of my time scooping cans, trash and clothes out of the water. I certainly do not support opening it up for camping if it looks like this and hope that because the road is so bad that tourists do not go down there as I am embarrassed that this would be what they see.

Until this problem is remedied I would never vote to open it up. If bathrooms cannot be taken care of then get rid of them all together. It is time for someone to sit down there for a day or two and start writing tickets.
