Grace’s Kitchen is sponsoring what is typically called a Horse Bingo — Grace’s is calling it a Surprise Drop. At the Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo Parade on Saturday, June 9, if you buy a number that you place physically closest to where the Grace’s Kitchen horse deposits her plops, you could win a fabulous prize. And at the same time you will help support Grace’s Kitchen. Could anything be more fun?

Numbers can be purchased at the Visitor’s Center or St. Barnabas Church, 110 W. North St. They are $1 each or six for $5. With your number you will receive a piece of chalk. In the moments before the parade, as Main Street is closed, you will hear an announcement saying that it is time to write your number wherever you wish on the parade route. Then just step back and wait for a very well-fed Grace’s Kitchen horse to pick your number as one of the winners.

The first Plop Prize will be a framed, limited edition, Sheila Hill print (print 81/1000), appraised at $900. This painting of a Native American woman is mounted on a Navajo Transitional weaving and framed in a 5 by 4 wooden frame. Subsequent plops will win you dinner at some of Cortez’ finest downtown restaurants, including Stonefish, The Farm and Pepperheads.
