Montezuma and Dolores County citizens owe a debt of gratitude to Mr. Kipp in Pleasant View for uncovering the greatest conspiracy since aliens landed in Roswell in 1947. Mr. Kipp has discovered a plot to unseat District Attorney Russell Wasley by unnamed anti-government forces. Mr. Kipp states these forces commandeered the Republican Assembly and foisted an unknown candidate on the citizens of the 22nd Judicial District over the incumbent by a wide margin. Mr. Kipp claims there have been no complaints heard about Wasley.
Obviously, he only reveals his conspiracy theories to the Cortez Journal and does not read the paper itself or he would be aware of a judge recently ordering Wasley and his staff take remedial classes in order to understand the constitutional rights of defendants charged with crimes things an experienced DA should know. An examination of the so-called anti-government forces seeking to unseat Mr. Wasley reveal Will Furse was nominated by a well-respected member of the Cortez Police Department and a 30 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Several other alleged co-conspirators work in government; rumor has it a couple of county commissioners from Dolores County were involved. The largest private farmer in our area and several other members of law enforcement and the business community chose Will Furse over Wasley.
Those who oppose Mr. Wasley are not anti-government, but anti-unconstitutional government. Such groups have opposed overreaching governments throughout history, the founders of this country included. Those who believe there are no complaints about Mr. Wasley obviously have avoided talking to the majority of those employed in law enforcement, members of the local judicial system, several victims of overzealous prosecution and victim advocacy groups.
