Memorial Day

This is the first three-day weekend of the summer. Tourism is beginning to pick up. School is ending. The weather is warm (and windy, but that’s better than cold and windy). Gas is less expensive than predicted. The lake is full, the rivers are fishable, the landscape are green.

It’s a great time to be in Southwest Colorado, but don’t make the weekend all about recreation.

When you drive by a cemetery this weekend, notice the flags fluttering over veterans’ graves. While you’re enjoying the day off, pause to remember for the men and women who spent holidays in war zones, and to reflect on the sacrifices of those who didn’t come home. Don’t take for granted the privileges that U.S. military personnel have preserved for the United States and for the rest of the world.

On Memorial Day, remember, and give thanks.
