This month, Rock Springs Community Church in Cortez will serve as a drop-off location for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child — joining nearly 5,000 U.S. locations collecting gifts for children around the world.

During collection week, Nov. 13–20, Cortez residents may fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items, and Operation Christmas Child will deliver the shoeboxes to children overseas.

“We are thrilled to open our doors and participate in this community-wide effort,” said Daphne Erhardt, of Cortez. Erhardt will serve as the drop-off site leader at the church, which aims to collect 777 shoebox gifts.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, headed by Franklin Graham.

Rock Springs Community Church is at 32233 U.S. Highway 160, Cortez, CO 81321. The site is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 13-16; Friday, Nov. 17, 9 a.m.– 1 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. on Nov. 17; 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on Nov. 18; 8 a.m.–1 p.m. on Nov. 19; 9-10 a.m. on Nov. 20.
