Given the past several weeks of inaction by the Dolores trustees, acting town manager and town attorney, the time has come to bring to light the numerous issues that are now present surrounding the Sept. 11 decision to close the Ron Kotarski Jr. CommUnity Playground.
During the town “workshop,” citizens were given the opportunity to provide their concerns to the board. I chose to do so, citing specifically the lack of outreach surrounding this decision.
To date, all that has changed is the “Keep Out” sign being changed to “No Trespassing,” as well as a game camera installed at the front of the grounds.
The town board was disinterested in this dialogue, with only three board members and the mayor speaking during the meeting. One trustee, Tracy Murphy, brought up common-sense recommendations which were not seconded; shame on the other five trustees.
On Sept. 28, numerous members of the electorate and two board members met to discuss future options for the playground. An easy solution was to have a local contractor with his own liability insurance inspect the footings of the playground, a request which was denied summarily one week later by the acting town manager.
The Dolores trustees and Mayor Lopez clearly do not understand the gravity and urgency of this situation. We demand engaged representatives working on behalf of our citizenry, who direct their subordinate employees to do what is in the town’s best interest.
The trustees were elected to represent us and are failing miserably.
