M-CHS softball team finishes season with a bang

Playing against Gunnison High School in its final regular-season games of the season on Oct. 7, the Montezuma-Cortez High School softball team smashed the ball all over the field en route to wins by scores of 26-4 and 17-2.

Leading the Lady Panthers at the plate in the opening game of the doubleheader was senior Hanna Molzahn, who cranked out three hits in four plate appearances and drove in a team-high six runs. Sophomore Alexis Cornett also enjoyed an impressive game as the sophomore belted a double and a home run in five plate appearances and drove in five runs.

Alyssa Cornett, Payton Keith, Mandy McAfee, Brooklynne Ward, Morgan Short and Dannika Noyes also drove in runs in the game, while Noyes pitched a complete game for the Lady Panthers and allowed just one earned run.

In the second game of the doubleheader, the Panthers were led offensively by Bailey Case, who drove in a team-high four runs. Keith drove in three runs for M-CHS, and Ward drove in two.

Sophomore Presley Frost started on the mound for the Lady Panthers and allowed just two earned runs over five innings pitched. Over the course of the regular season, M-CHS finished 8-10-1 overall and 6-6 in the Class 3A District 5 League.
