Bayfield boys soccer storms past Montezuma-Cortez

Tilden Berriman scored a pair of goals, Chad Winkler made a pair of saves against penalty kicks, and the Bayfield Wolverines’ boys soccer team shut out Montezuma-Cortez 3-0 on Tuesday night at Wolverine Country Stadium in Bayfield.

Berriman added his 12th and 13th goals of the season in the 21st and 34th minutes, and Berman Abdallah-Boehm added another BHS goal in the 67th minute to give the Wolverines (7-3, 5-3 3A Intermountain League) its fourth home win of the season. It was the fifth goal of the year for Abdallah-Boehm.

Winkler had a shutout in goal and stopped a pair of penalty kicks late in the second half, denying the Panthers’ Aiden Adams on attempts in the 79th and 81st minutes. The Panthers fell to 0-9 on the season and 0-7 in IML games. The Panthers lost to Alamosa, 3-1, on Sept. 29.

Next up for Montezuma-Cortez is a conference game at Telluride on Thursday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. Next up for the Wolverines is a trip Saturday to Alamosa.
