Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Partners (RSAPP) in Durango announced today that it has received a $40,000 Daniels Fund grant to support general operations, including those in Cortez, Dolores and Mancos.
RSAPP has the long-term goal of decreasing youth substance abuse in southwest Colorado, and envisions engaged, thriving youth invested in strong communities throughout our region, according to a written release from the organization. Community Prevention Organizers (CPOs) are trained, supported and managed on a regional level, and serve local organizations in communities throughout the five counties of southwest Colorado. In Montezuma County, RSAPP AmeriCorps members serve with School Community Youth Collaborative, Montelores Early Childhood Council, and as Check and Connect Mentors at schools in Cortez, Dolores and Mancos.
RSAPP recruits AmeriCorps members locally, so they bring community fluency to the table as part of their skill set. CPOs disseminate information, deliver educational programs, manage data, engage families, partner with schools, and monitor, mentor, involve, and listen to youth.
Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need, established the Daniels Fund to provide grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.
