Fast times at Bayfield High

All four local high schools competed at the rescheduled Pine River Invitational in Bayfield Wednesday.

The Dolores Lady Bears relay teams showed their back to state championship form on the way to a third-place team finish.

Dolores won the 4x100- and-800-meter relays. Defending 2A state champs Lexi Atkinson, Mindy McCracken and Cassie Lard won the 4x100 in 51.56 with newcomer Brianna Schwartz. Lady Bears Michelle Kline, Rachel Beverlin, Regan Umberger and Kayla Charles took the 4x800 at 11:04.96.

Atkinson and Lard each won the girls 100- and-200-meter dash races with times of 13.27 and 26.87. Kline and Beverlin recorded runner-up finishes in the 400 (64.33) and 800 (2:42.71).

Moki Youngquist led the Dolores boys, winning the 110- and-300-meter hurdles in 17.19 and 44.77. Stephen O’Connor-Seville was third in the 800 at 2:12.78. The Bears placed seventh out of 12 teams.

Host Bayfield won team titles on both sides.

The Montezuma-Cortez High School boys came in third.

Randy Haley put down his baseball uniform and sprinted to a second-place finish of 11.92 in the 100. Jaron Carver also landed in second in the 400 at 53.32. Dillon Wells placed third in the 3,200 in 12:06.95 and Nick Haukeness was second in the 300-hurdles (45.24).

Ashley Lingo again won the discus for the Lady Panthers with a toss of 127-05. She is currently ranked No. 4 in 4A. Amanda Gallegos won the 800 in 2:41.79. She also helped the 800-sprint medley relay team of Imari Black, Randy Elliot and Tori Laymon win in 1:58.76.

The M-CHS girls took fourth as a team.

The Mancos boys also placed fourth.

Kenny Philpot, Trey Gordanier and Justin Burton had first-place finishes for the Bluejays. Philpot displayed his No. 1, 2A ranking well in the high jump. He won with a leap of 6-05. Gordanier leaped his way to the triple jump title at 39-00.25. Burton raced to the 3,200 championship, winning in 11:31.58. The Bluejays 4x200 team of Branson Mitchell, Conner Jankowski, Anthony Reiners and Philpot bested the competition in 1:36.42.

Devin Kroeker finished fifth for the thin Lady Bluejays team in the 200 at 29.35. The Mancos girls were 10th as a team.

Dove Creek finished eighth and 10th on the girls and boys side.

Cori Guynes and Shelbie Knuckles came in fourth- and-sixth-place in the 100-hurdles in 17.23 and 17.90 for the Lady Bulldogs. Guynes placed sixth as well in the long jump (14-04.25). Madison Young heaved the shot put 29-07.75, which was good for sixth.

Cole Baughman tallied second- and-third-place times of 18.57 and 46.01 in the 110- and-300-hurdles for the Bulldogs.

Dove Creek and Dolores will cohost the Southwest Invitational today in Cortez at Panther Stadium beginning at 9 a.m. Mancos will compete at the meet, too.

M-CHS is at Rifle today.
