Cortez Farmers Market vendor application deadlines
The Cortez Farmers Market applications for returning and new vendors have until Friday, April 27 to submit their application with payment to reserve their space(s). After April 27, the Cortez Farmers Market Committee will meet to consider new vendor applications and assign space(s). The Market will open on Saturday, June 2 and end October 27.

Spring is theme of April Storytime at the Cortez Public Library
“Too Early for Spring?” is the April theme of the newly-renamed Raising Readers Storytime at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St. Storytime is held every Thursday and Friday at 10:30 a.m. for preschool-aged children. Both days will follow the same theme. On Thursday there will be no craft. Older children are welcome to join in for the craft at 11:15 a.m. on Fridays.
“Are You a Good Steward?” will be presented on Thursday, April 19 and Friday, April 20. “Jump Frog” will wrap up the month on Thursday, April 26 and Friday, April 27.
Raising Readers Storytime offers songs, stories, crafts and silliness and uses the Early Childhood Literacy Initiative program. For more information, contact the library at 565-8117.

Manaugh program seeks donated items for Trash & Treasures Sale
Manaugh Elementary School will hold their 1st Annual Trash & Treasure Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21 at the New Wings Day Treatment Center (north of Manaugh) at 210 S. Washington St., Cortez.
All proceeds from the sale will go towards buying educational materials for the New Wings program and the Manaugh Elementary library. Donations for the sale may be dropped off any time between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the Monday through Thursday before the sale date at 210 S. Washington St. Volunteers are also needed for the sale.

Montelores Catholic Community holds Spring Rummage Sale
The Montelores Catholic Community will hold a Spring Rummage & Yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21, at St. Margaret Mary Church at Montezuma and Market St.
A wide variety of merchandise will be offered, including canning jars and canners, yard and garden tools and supplies, riding mower attachments, furniture to include dressers, table and chairs, a patio set, bookcases and also a very large offering of women’s plus size clothing (18 to 4x), and tools and shop items, along with the usual books, clothing, linens, holiday and household goods.

8th Annual MountainFilm On Tour will stop in Dolores
Greater Dolores Action will present the 8th Annual Telluride MountainFilm On Tour and Great Outdoors Silent Auction from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 20 at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave.
This event is dedicated to educating and inspiring audiences about issues that matter, cultures worth exploring, environments worth preserving, and conversations worth sustaining. The Great Outdoors Silent Auction will feature a vast selection of outdoor recreational gear and river equipment from favorite outdoor companies, as well as goods and services from local businesses. Dinner will be donated by Absolute Bakery & Café, beer brewed by Dolores River Brewery, and snacks and other refreshments from Dolores Food Market will be available for purchase. Admission for adults is $10 at the door; children 15 and under are free. All proceeds benefit Greater Dolores Action, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and will support the Dolores River Festival and local river projects.

Masonic Lodge Vial of Life Project will be offered during 9Health Fair
The Cortez Masonic Lodge #133 A.F.& A.M. in partnership with the Montezuma County Emergency Services Association will host a Vial of Life Project during the county 9Health Fair in Cortez on Saturday, April 21.
The Vial of Life is a nationally recognized program, designed to speak for you when you can’t speak for yourself. The vial contains important medical information that can assist emergency personnel in administering the proper medical treatment. Montezuma County EMS staff will be present to answer your medically-related questions.

Fire Protection District will host open house, food drive
The Cortez Fire Protection District will host an open house and food drive on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Station 1, 30 N. Ash Street.
Activities will include fire engine rides on an antique Seagrave fire engine, fire extinguisher training and an auto extrication demonstration at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stop by and meet your local firemen and women and learn more about how the fire department serves you. Bring non-perishable food items to donate for the Good Samaritan Center.

Get Yourself Talking, Get Yourself Tested Campaign comes to Cortez
This April, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains is again participating in the GYT: Get Yourself Talking, Get Yourself Tested Campaign as a part of STD Awareness Month. The Cortez health center at 20 W. North St. will offer $10 STD testing and $10 HIV screening on Monday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Thursday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
One in two sexually active young people will get an STD by the time they turn 25 and most won’t know it, which is why it is so important to get yourself tested. Appointments are recommended, but not required.

Dolores Rotary Club Bingo Night
The Dolores Rotary Club will be sponsoring a bingo night on Tuesday, April 24 at the Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside Ave. Chili, cornbread and dessert will be served starting at 6:30 p.m. for $5 with bingo following at 7 p.m. Cards are $1 per game or $10 for the evening. ‘Education Under Fire’ screening, discussion at library
The public is invited to view and discuss the “Education Under Fire” DVD April 25 at 7 p.m. at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St.
This is a local opportunity to join Amnesty International, Nobel Peace Prize recipients President Jose Ramos-Horta and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and others in sharing concerns about human rights, specifically the right to universal education. Joshus Rubenstein, Northeast Regional Director for Amnesty International USA, writes, “Education Under Fire illuminates a little-known struggle for human dignity by the Baha’i community in Iran to overcome systematic discrimination and secure higher education for its young people. Walking Together event promotes health
The Journey to Wellness Walking Together for Healthier Nations event will take place May 4 at several starting points with the walk ending at the Four Corners Monument. Registration is at 6 a.m. with the walk starting at 7 a.m.
All participants that walk three miles will receive a free T-shirt.

Disc Golf Picnic benefits American Red Cross
The 4 Corners Red Cross Disc Golf is hosting the “World’s Biggest Disc Golf Picnic” that will benefit the Southwest Colorado chapter of the American Red Cross on Sunday, May 6 at the Centennial Park Disc Golf Course in Cortez.
The public is invited to spectate, or stop by and learn about becoming a local Red Cross volunteer at the big gazebo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Disc golfers can participate in Random Draw Doubles teeing off at 10 a.m., fee is $20 with lunch included.
Local professional disc golfers will offer lessons all morning for $5, lunch and a golf disc included.
