Journey Noyes receives award in VFW art contest

Journey Noyes, a 2017 graduate of Montezuma-Cortez High School, has been selected as a 2016-17 Young American Creative Patriotic Art contest winner by the Montezuma County Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 5231 in Mancos.

She received an art pin, a certificate and $100 prize.

The patriotic art contest is an annual national competition open to students in grades 9-12. Eleventh-grader Bayleigh Wynkoop, of Wray, Colorado, won first place and a $10,000 scholarship. More than 4,600 students submitted entries, and a total of $21,000 in national scholarships was awarded to eight students in 2017, according to the VFW.
