Mancos Town Administrator Tom Yennerell has set up a time for a team of experts to perform a downtown assessment on May 3 and 4. He has requested that all area businesses take time on one of those days to meet with them at the Mancos Community Center. The time will be announced at a later date.

This is a time for businesses, the public and all downtown stakeholders to bring their ideas for enhancing the downtown area. After that, the team will present its initial recommendations for discussion. When they leave, they will write a list of “to do” ideas for downtown action.

Any downtown businesses that are interested in attending may do so. For more information, call town hall at 533-7725 or visit www.downtowncoloradoinc.org.

An article by Katherine Corell in the Colorado Main Street newsletter said: “Every day Downtown Colorado, Inc. (DCI) strengthens communities across Colorado by supporting local governments in their efforts to support small businesses and grow a sustainable local economy. We achieve this by providing advocacy, technical assistance training, and educational events, often with the voluntary services of our wonderful membership base of professional revitalization experts.

“DCI’s educational events and technical assistance are geared toward building and maintaining partnerships and structures to connect public sector members, quasi-governmental districts, and private sector services. Educational events are focused on identifying useful tools and processes to enable communities to create usable plans for commercial district revitalization. Technical assistance develops cohesive action-oriented programs to assist the leadership in initiatives that support the business district.

“DCI continues to focus on a multidisciplinary approach, which includes collaborations to make resources go farther. To leverage resources, DCI promotes collaboration at the local level with public/private partnerships and at a statewide level through state agencies and organizations.

“As local governments continue to feel the impacts of budget cuts during this economic downturn, DCI will continue to offer programs in 2012 that build on the ability of communities to better utilize existing assets.
