Thank you for benefit dinner comes from heart

It is with a very humble and grateful heart that I write this letter.

Last August, I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of prostate cancer. After surgery, things were looking good. At my check-up in February, however, it wasn’t looking so good. I am currently in treatment at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America, in Goodyear, Ariz.

Last Friday, a benefit dinner and dessert auction, organized by the Montelores Christian Home Educators, was held for me at the Arriola Community Center to help offset medical costs. I wasn’t able to be there as I am in treatment, but the reports from my family were incredible. To say I am overwhelmed at this show of love and support is a huge understatement. All the work that went into planning, organizing, cooking, setting up, cleaning up and taking care of all the little details is deeply appreciated. Special thanks to the group of home-schooled kids that worked so hard. I understand the food was terrific, the music was great, the auction was a lot of fun and there was a lot of good social time, too. I am reminded, once again, of the blessings of living in this community, where people really do care — and show it in tangible ways. I have a mountain ahead of me to climb, but with my faith, my family and the support of my friends and community, I can make it to the top.

“Thank you” seems really inadequate — but to all who worked, came by, brought desserts, sent cards, donated your hard-earned money — thank you from the bottom of my heart. My prayer is that God would bless you and bless you abundantly.
