Myers has an axe to grind

I hesitate to respond to Mark Myers’ e-mails, because he then sends in even one more over the top. Now he attacks the dead, a new low. Mark Myers was the Democrat appointed DA, briefly, in 2010. I defeated him in the 2010 election. He has an axe to grind. It also appears as though Democrat Mac Myers seeks a job with his political ally, William Furse.

Myers attacks three previously elected Republican DAs, implying his opinion that only Democrat Myers best managed the DA’s Office. Messrs. Wilson and Olt are deceased. Who with any common sense would attack the dead?

I proudly served as a deputy DA in Rio Blanco and Garfield counties (Ninth District). Myers hired me in 2004, and Myers told the Four Corners Free Press in September 2010 that he was happy with me in the Ninth District Attorney’s Office.

I am proud of my work here as the current district attorney and previously as a deputy DA, including the successful trial of Ignacio Rael for murder, by myself and Jim Wilson, who was then district attorney. When Wilson hired me, I immediately moved here, and happily live and work in Cortez. I have been a Republican for a long time. This is different from my opponent, who works as a defense lawyer, and commuted here from Durango before he moved here in 2011 from La Plata County and recently registered as a Republican to run for office.

I seek the help of all registered Republicans in petitioning on the ballot. If I do not get on the ballot, there will be no choice in the Republican primary for district attorney. Ultimately, it is all up to the voters and I respect their choice.

Russell Wasley
