FRIDAY, MARCH 9
A deputy responded to a scene in Dolores after a report of a semi truck striking a power pole and ripping down a power line near the Dolores State Bank, in the alley. While en route, the deputy observed a semi truck that matched the description of the vehicle in question, and pulled over the semi. The driver identified himself with an Iowa drivers license, and confirmed that he had been at the location of the incident and that he knew he had hit the power pole, pulling the line down. When asked why he didnt notify anyone, he said that he didnt know whom to notify. The semi driver was issued a summons for failure to notify the police of an accident. Empire Electric Association will seek reimbursement for the cost of repairs from the company the truck is registered to.
MONDAY, MARCH 12
An employee of the Montezuma County Sheriffs Office records department informed a deputy that a male subject had failed to register with the Sheriffs Office as a sex offender by not re-registering on Feb. 27 as required by Colorado state law. An arrest warrant was issued for the subject.
A deputy responded to a call phoned in to dispatch of a truck that had left an area gas station with a driver that appeared to be intoxicated. The truck was observed traveling south on Sligo from Main St., and the deputy was able to catch up to it at 7th and Chestnut, and contacted the driver, who told the deputy that he had only had three beers to drink that day. The drivers New Mexico license came back as revoked, and he told the deputy it was revoked for receiving a DUI. The deputy observed a male passenger in the back seat of the truck attempting to hide a bottle of vodka in his jacket. A strong odor of alcohol was noticed from the driver. When asked when he had last had something to drink, he said about 30 minutes prior to being pulled over. The driver failed voluntary roadside maneuvers, and was taken into custody. He was issued summons for driving while under the influence and with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or more, and driving with a revoked license.
TUESDAY, MARCH 13
A deputy was advised by dispatch of a possible burglary at a storage unit business. The owner of the business was calling on behalf of one of the clients, who had been moving items out of his unit and noticed a piece of exercise equipment was missing. The piece of missing equipment is believed to be a Pre Cor elliptical exercise machine with a value of $8,200. The units renter had tried to open the lock on his unit, the key would not work, and it appeared that unknown persons had removed his original lock and replaced it with another lock. He had to cut off the lock and replace it with his own. When he went back to start moving his items, he found the machine missing. He had not noticed it missing on the previous visit. The owner of the business let the deputy know the hours that she had been on site, and informed the deputy that she had been told by the renter of the unit that the piece of missing equipment is so big that it would take at least three men to move it. When the deputy spoke with the renter of the unit, he said that he last noticed the Pre Cor machine about two months ago. The machine is described at grey with a flywheel on the back and a computer display in the center.
A deputy was dispatched to a rural address near Dolores in reference to a disturbance call. A female individual was threatening to burn down the house. The male reporting party met the deputy in the driveway, and told him that the woman had damaged his house, and was threatening to burn it down. He had told the woman that he had called police and she fled prior to the deputys arrival. The reporting party said that she was highly intoxicated and became uncontrollable, damaging several areas inside the house. There was a hole in a bedroom door, and a mark on the wall where the door knob had hit it, a television stand and television had been pushed over, shattering the stand, and it was unknown if the television was still functional. There were also two holes in the bathroom door. Damage was estimated at $300. The male was unsure if he wanted to file charges, and the woman was not located at this time.
