Dove Creek Elementary PTO kicked off a reading program to celebrate Dr. Seuss birthday on March 2 with visitors that helped get the program started. The Cat In the Hat, the Lorax, and Thing 1 (Angie Buffington) and Thing 2 (Gensis Allen) visited the school and passed out stickers, pencils, and bookmarks to each of the elementary students. As part of the reading program, the students will earn book segments to add to the schools bookworm, with a goal for the bookworm to completely surround the hallways at the school. The big goal is for each student to read or be read to for 15 or 20 minutes each night, depending on their age. Each 15- or 20-minute increment will earn students a segment of the worm. When students have read for 100 minutes, their names will be entered into a drawing for big prizes to be awarded on Monday, April 2, during an all-school assembly.
