Sunday, Aug. 6

2:51 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 200 block of East Empire Street on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se and weaving.

3:58 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting and a man was arrested on suspicion of trespassing and resisting arrest at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed the woman had tried to steal cat toys and cat food, valued at $14.30 total. Her boyfriend reportedly started yelling at a Walmart loss prevention officer while police were issuing the summons, and refused to leave when asked. When a police officer tried to arrest him for trespassing, he reportedly struggled and tried to pull away, leading the officer to tackle him to the ground.

5:15 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 300 block of West Fifth Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, criminal mischief and domestic violence. After responding to a report of a domestic incident, police reportedly found her sitting on top of her husband in their residence, punching him and yelling profanities. The man also claimed she had thrown him into a neighbor’s fence during their fight, causing damage. The woman claimed her husband had also been throwing rocks at her during the fight.

10:09 a.m.: A woman was arrested in the 200 block of East First Street on a warrant for failure to appear on a local misdemeanor charge after an on-duty officer reportedly noticed her lying on the sidewalk soaking wet from the nearby sprinklers. She was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

2:31 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 800 block of South Chestnut Street on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after a neighbor reported hearing her yell, “Let me go.” The woman reportedly claimed she had slapped her boyfriend in the face a few times while they were arguing, and he had held her down.

2:48 p.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at a motel in the 2600 block of East Main Street. A woman who was staying there for the Cortez Rendezvous Balloon Rally claimed some of her jewelry had gone missing from her suitcase, which she had left in her motel room while she was at the rally. The case remains under investigation.

7:15 p.m.: A man was arrested in the 100 block of West Third Street on suspicion of possessing controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence after a vehicle in which he was a passenger was pulled over for failing to signal properly. A handgun and a bag containing a small amount of meth were found in the vehicle. The suspect was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital because he claimed to have swallowed a couple of grams of meth when he saw the police following the car.

10:58 p.m.: A man was arrested at Aneth Lodge, 645 E. Main St., on suspicion of third-degree assault and domestic violence after his girlfriend claimed he had tried to throw a chair at her and had scratched her left eye after he saw her talking to another man in the parking lot. The man was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital due to severe intoxication.

Monday, Aug. 7

11:35 a.m.: A man was arrested in the 700 block of North Market Street on suspicion of third-degree assault, indecent exposure, harassment and domestic violence after his wife’s grandmother claimed he had pushed her down and exposed himself to her. She was treated at Southwest Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the fall. When police arrived at the residence where the suspect was staying, they reportedly found him in a closet with his wife’s pit bull.

1:40 p.m.: A woman was arrested in the 500 block of East Montezuma Avenue on a New Mexico warrant for failure to appear on a felony charge after police responded to a report that a 4-year-old child was living in a house with needles and narcotic equipment. Some straws containing white residue were found in the residence, along with a young girl, who was left in the care of her uncle.

8:33 p.m.: A woman turned herself in at Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., and was arrested on three warrants for failure to appear on local misdemeanor charges.

10:18 p.m.: A male juvenile was issued a summons on suspicion of shoplifting at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St. Store employees claimed he had tried to steal an automotive headlight valued at $12.88.

Tuesday, Aug. 8

12:09 a.m.: A woman was issued a summons on suspicion of trespassing at Walmart, 1835 E. Main St.

9:28 a.m.: Police responded to a report of theft at Axl’s Glass, 42 N. Beech St. A manager reported a trailer belonging to her had gone missing, and she suspected a man who shared the building with her. When police questioned the man, he reportedly claimed the trailer belonged to him, but denied taking it. The case remains under investigation.

11:33 a.m.: Police responded to a report of property damage in the 900 block of North Edith Street. A man claimed someone had punctured a tire on his utility trailer, causing about $119 in damage. The case remains under investigation.

4:37 p.m.: Police responded to a report of an unpaid meal at Denny’s, 2059 E. Main St. Restaurant employees claimed a couple had failed to pay for a meal worth $31.43. The case remains under investigation.

9:57 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a stolen bicycle at City Market, 508 E. Main St. A man claimed his bike, valued at $100, had been stolen while it was secured with a lock just inside the store entrance.
