Mancos Melt—It’s the thaw that counts

The annual Mancos Melt celebration begins today. Following is a schedule of events.



Thursday, March 15

Mancos Melt kickoff party at Arborena, 114 W. Grand Ave. - 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $30 per person or $55 per couple. Reservations are recommended. Prizes will be given out for best leprechaun costume.



Friday, March 16

Third Annual Snow Show Photography Exhibit - Winter Scenes - at the Mancos Visitors Center, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Prizes will be awarded at 6:30 p.m.

Fashion show and costume contest at the Millwood Junction at 5:30 p.m. Prizes awarded for the best leprechaun-themed costume. Maybe a group skit or musical talent? Anything goes.

The Porchlights at Mancos Valley Distillery, 8 p.m. There is a $3 cover charge.



Saturday, March 17

Green eggs and ham at the Grand Avenue Cafe for $4.99. Opens at 6 a.m.

Critter parade at 10 a.m. on Grand Avenue, from Mesa to Main. Dress yourself and your critter. All animals are welcome, as well as decorated stick horses. Sign up at Pioneer Park at 9:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best costume.

Snow Show at the Mancos Valley Visitors Center, open for viewing 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kids scavenger hunt - after the parade - 10:30 a.m.

Chocolate Challenge - Raven House Gallery, 120 Grand Avenue, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Bed Races - Grand Avenue at 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This race is simulated to represent housekeeping. Handmade beds will be supplied by Rustic Style Furniture and are pushed through an obstacle course by the team. Five-member teams with one member on the bed at all times, and must be at least 18 years old to participate. Entry deadline is 11 a.m. at the Arborena. Costumes are encouraged.

Golf tournament - Tournament starts at Arborena, goes to many locations around town and is not to be missed. Golf and costumes make this a guaranteed fun time. Each hole is located in a different downtown establishment, created by some of the hottest Mancos course designers. Sign up early at Fahrenheit Coffee at rena@arborena.com. Meet at Arborena at 12:30 in costume to receive your score cards and assignments for the shotgun start. Bring your own putter and golf ball. The cost is $20 per team of two. Cash and prizes will be awarded at the Columbine at 4:30 p.m. and costumes are encouraged.

Corned beef and cabbage - VFW from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $8 per person and $5 for seconds. Kids under 6 are free.
