Cortez resident, Jack Schuenemeyer, was recently selected to be a distinguished lecturer by the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG).
Schuenemeyers tenure as Distinguished Lecturer began with two presentations at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, N.M. in November. In December, he and his wife, Judy, were guests at a Chinese National Conference on Geosciences, which was held at the China University of Geosciences in Beijing. He also has been invited to speak and/or teach later this year in Dallas, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany and India.
The purpose of the IAMG is to promote international cooperation in the application and use of mathematics in geological research and technology. To help accomplish this purpose, the Association chooses a Distinguished Lecturer each year to give lectures and seminars and to teach short courses in different areas of the world at the invitation of hosts in various countries.
A Professor of Statistics for 25 years at the University of Delaware, Schuenemeyer has Bachelors and Masters degrees in applied mathematics from the University of Colorado and a PhD in statistics from the University of Georgia. He owns Southwest Statistical Consulting, L.L.C. in Cortez. He is Vice-President of the Re-1 School Board and a past President of the Cortez Area Chamber of Commerce. He also has served on the boards of several local non-profit organizations.
