Whats the Millwood Follies without lots of awesome acts, daring door prizes and superb silent auction pieces? Well, this one is no different than the last 28, and it will benefit the Mancos Public Library, along with wonderful entertainment.
On Saturday, March 3, the Millwood Junction Restaurant will be the scene of a hopefully packed house of people who have come to support the librarys kick-off to a campaign to make our library more relevant, said library Director Lee Hallberg.
There has been a 10 percent decrease in county funds for the library in the last few years, and we want to try and make up some of those funds, Hallberg said.
People are using the library more and more, Hallberg said. Patrons are using computers and other technology thats offered, while still using the traditional books and magazines that have been a part of the library for more than a hundred years.
Money raised at the Millwood Follies will benefit a campaign the library is starting to increase the facilitys relevant materials.
The theme for this years Follies is Mission Impossible. And youll be able to see it on all the posters around Mancos advertising the event. Joanne Riffel, owner of the Millwood Junction, and her sister, Karen Noack, who has organized this event since its beginnings, want to encourage everyone to dress in spy-like or Mission Impossible clothing when they come to the Follies.
The librarys staff has already begun to collect prizes and silent auction items. They have rafting trips, glider trips, golf passes, gift certificates and much more.
Riffel and Noack said community members have always been more than generous in donating their services and time.
The designer of the poster, Lauren Kramer, said this is her third year helping Millwood Follies.
I just love doing this kind of thing, said Kramer, a 16-year-old art student at Mancos High School.
It was so easy to work with these people, she said. They give me the theme and the information, and I just go with it!
Point to Point Graphics, 131 N. Main in Mancos, has donated the posters.
Anyone who would like to donate an item can call Riffel at 533-7338 or the Mancos library at 533-7600.
It will be first-come, first served, Riffel said.
Doors will open at 4 p.m., and dinner can be ordered at 6 p.m. Entertainment starts at 7 p.m.
