The Montezuma County Republican Party wants to thank everyone (over 650 attendees) who participated in their precinct caucuses Tuesday evening! Many precincts attendance was triple what it was two years ago. Thank you for participating in this political process and in our Presidential straw poll. We also want to thank our 22 precinct chairs and others who volunteer their time and efforts to plan and conduct these caucuses, attend the monthly party meetings and attend our county assembly. You do all this pro-bono and your efforts are very much appreciated.
The caucuses are an exercise in our freedom of assembly, which is such an important aspect to our great country. We can assemble, share ideas and cast votes as free people in an orderly manner. This is sometimes taken for granted in our country, and it does not exist in many countries. Our founding fathers knew its importance in a free society.
We also want to thank the 11 precinct caucus locations for allowing us to use your facilities (including the five churches that opened their doors to us). It was much appreciated.
Many great resolutions were presented at the caucuses and these will be presented and voted on at our county assembly on February 24. If they receive a majority vote, they will be submitted to the State assembly for consideration.
Finally, good luck to all the Republican candidates running for local offices. In a small community like ours, it is always healthy to have contested races. (four candidates for County Commissioner District #2, two candidates for County Commission District #3, and three candidates for 22nd Judicial District Attorney).
