J.R. Berry explains the rules for voting to a crowd of about 100 at the the Fourth Precinct caucus in the Cortez United Methodist Church Tuesday night.

Colorado Republican voters threw their support behind Rick Santorum in the statewide caucus and local caucus attendees followed that trend.

In Montezuma County, Santorum’s tally was 37 percent to Mitt Romney’s 28 percent. In Dolores County, Santorum picked up 37 percent with Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul in second place with 25 percent each. In La Plata County, Santorum was a 35-27 percent winner over Romney.

Statewide, Santorum defeated Mitt Romney 40 percent to 35 percent to capture 15 delegates. Romney picked up 6 delegates.

Santorum also picked up wins in Minnesota and Missouri on Tuesday.
