The first layer of asphalt has been laid on U.S. Highway 491 between County Road M and Colorado Highway 184, part of a 9-mile highway improvement project, the Colorado Department of Transportation announced Friday.
Crews will overlay the road with a final mat of asphalt as the project progresses.
On Monday, crews will remove old asphalt from Lebanon Road to Road M so they can replace it with two layers of new asphalt.
Drivers should expect single-lane and slower traffic while asphalt is being removed, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and possibly on Saturday.
Access to businesses may also be temporarily altered, the news release said.
The project, contracted to Oldcastle SW Group for $6.9 million, began May 11 and is scheduled for completion by mid-October.
Workers have already replaced about 3,000 feet of guardrail adjacent to Narraguinnep Reservoir on the south side of Colorado 184 and installed a concrete drainage pipe under U.S. 491 near Basin Coop.
