DOLORES STATE BANK officials gathered at the Lewis Arriola Community Center in December to hand over two acres of land, which will be used for overflow parking.

The Dolores State Bank recently donated land to the Lewis Arriola Community Center.

Bank officials gathered Wednesday with members of the Community Center to sign the paperwork that would give the community center 2 acres of land adjacent to the community center, located in the middle of farming and ranching land on Road S.

The vacant land will be used by the community center as overflow parking.

“We were badly in need of overflow parking,” said Chan Chaffin, manager of the Lewis Arriola Community Center.

He said parking at the community center often fills up and then people attending an event park along the road, which can be dangerous.

“This will help cut down on traffic hazards,” he said. “This is awfully generous of the Dolores State Bank.”

The community center is often the spot for local weddings, family reunions, fund raisers, funerals and an annual chili supper.
