Some trails, roads open from 412 Fire closures

The San Juan National Forest continues to manage the 412 Fire, burning seven miles south of Rico, and smoke continues to be visible as the fire smolders, the San Juan National Forest said Wednesday in a news release.

Although the area has received some rain, the fire continues to grow slowly.

The lightning-caused fire began on June 23 and is currently at 95 acres, burning in mixed conifer and heavy dead and downed timber. Fire crews have reduced to minimal staffing, with a continued emphasis to monitor, confine, and contain the fire.

Although closures from the 412 Fire in the San Juan National Forest remain in effect, the following roads and trails were recently reopened, according to the U.S. Forest Service:

Colorado Trail and previously closed Columbine District trailsRoaring Fork Road, from Colorado Highway 145 to Divide Road (Forest Service Road 564)Scotch Creek to Highway 145 and Forest Service roads 550 and 550.1.Salt Creek, Ryman Creek and Lower Ryman trails, and Divide Road (Forest Service Road 564) to Scotch Creek, remain closed.
