In late March, my wife and I were leaving Cortez, heading for the Grand Canyon on day five of our spring break trip. Unfortunately, as we were leaving town, a deer decided to try and leap the hood of our car. We were fine, but the same was not true for either the deer or our 4Runner.

Many people in Cortez were very helpful in our situation. The folks at Kidd’s Auto Repair heard the crash and came running out to make sure we were fine. They also provided a brush, as we were both covered in glass from the windshield.

Officers Frank Kobel and Travis Duncan were on the scene quickly and went out of their way to not only assure we were fine, but arranged for a tow truck, took my wife to get a rental car, quickly generated their report and helped me communicate all the necessary information to the insurance company. They even helped us unload our 4Runner into the rental so we could eventually continue on our trip.

Everyone contributed to making the situation as pleasant as possible. We appreciated everyone’s efforts. Hopefully, on our next trip we can spend more time in Cortez, just not with the local wildlife.
