Announcer Jody Carper has been introducing riders and doing play-by-play reports for the Ute Mountain Rodeo since 2009.

“The great people keep bringing me back,” he says. “It is very professionally run, and they bring in great talent.”

His job is to explain each individual event, talking about the contestants, livestock and sponsors.

“I’ve got a lot on my plate, and it takes a lot of preparation. I’m the stat man and the color man, so I do my homework,” Carper says. “I love crowd participation and get them involved, asking questions and getting some back and forth going. The bull riding and barrel racing are probably the crowd favorites.”

He also banters with the barrel man and participates in comedy routines to entertain the crowd.

“Harrison is great to work with. He is one of the best in the business,” Carper said.

When Carper gets the call to work the Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo, he knows he going to mix business with pleasure.

“It’s one of my favorites, and I always come a week early to enjoy the great scenery, and play some golf,” he says. “Rodeo announcing is the entertainment business, and I feel blessed to have this job.”
